‘The Best of Me’ gets a screenwriter

Posted by fay with No Comments

Another year, another adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks best-seller being greenlit by a major Hollywood movie studio.

I’m being sarcastic, but Sparks’ productions really have been like clockwork, with a new adaptation reaching theaters every couple of years since Luis Mandoki translated Message In a Bottle for the big screen back in 1999. Case in point: Zac Efron headlines Sparks’ The Lucky One, which reaches theaters in April, and Lasse Hallstrom is about to shoot Safe Haven for Relativity Media.

The next Sparks book heading to the big screen will be The Best of Me, the author’s latest bestseller that involves former high-school sweethearts reuniting when they return to their hometown for a funeral. J. Mills Goodloe has been hired to shape a screenplay.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. picked up the distribution rights to Sparks’ novel before the author had even put pen to page. That sounds abnormal, but a similar situation happened with Sparks’ The Last Song, which he wrote specifically so it could be turned into a feature film tailored to pop star Miley Cyrus.

And why wouldn’t a studio gamble on Sparks? He’s a proven commodity at the box office, with movies based on his bestselling books earning a grand total of $359 million at the domestic box alone. They’re also a launch pad for fresh young talent. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling blew up after The Notebook. CinemaBlend favorite Channing Tatum turned heads in Dear John. Cyrus’ Last Song co-star Liam Hemsworth can next be seen in The Hunger Games. And veteran actors like Richard Gere and Diane Lane lend weight to adaptations like Nights in Rodanthe.

Keira Knightley in talks for Safe Haven

Posted by fay with No Comments

Back in August of 2010 Relativity Media won out in a major bidding war to produce a film version of Nicholas Sparks’ novel Safe Haven. The interest in Sparks is no surprise, the authors’ previous work spawning big screen hits A Walk To Remember, The Notebook and Dear John.

The directing job fell to The Cider House Rules helmer Lasse Hallstrom who has experience bring Sparks to the big screen as the director of Dear John.

With Hallstrom now putting the final buff and polish on his Swedish backed thriller The Hypnotist Relativity are eying a May start for Safe Haven and all they need now is a lead.

When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family.

But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her . . . a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport. With Jo’s empathic and stubborn support, Katie eventually realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards . . . and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.

Twitch has learned that Keira Knightley is now in early talks for the part, a move that – along with her co-lead in the Steve Carell starring Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World – could indicate that Knightley is looking to move back into the mainstream after a long string of post-Pirates Of The Caribbean arthouse efforts.

‘The Lucky One’ TV Spot Debuts With Help From Zac Efron

Posted by fay with No Comments

Zac Efron on WhoSay

It won’t be long now before the next sure-fire heartbreaker of a Nicholas Sparks story comes out in theaters (and then leaves ladies everywhere sobbing into their Cheerios and shrieking, “Why don’t you ever build me a telescope when I’m dying of cancer?!” at their perplexed male companions.) And this time around, it’s Zac Efron who’ll be making your boyfriend look bad, with his turn as a lovestruck marine in “The Lucky One“—and Zac has postedthe very first TV ad for the April 20 release.

The bite introduces us to Logan Thibault (Zac), who finds a mysterious photo of a pretty blonde in a pile of rubble during a tour of duty in Iraq…and stops to pick it up just in time to not get blown to smithereens by an IED. Lucky! Which is the point, of course, as he returns home and immediately embarks on a mission to locate the girl in the picture. (And guess what: He finds her! Spoiler alert! Only not really because the entire preview shows them talking and making out.)

And in addition to all the high-drama romance we expect from good old Nicky Sparks—complete with the requisite scene in which one lovestruck character runs down a street shouting someone’s name—this sneak peek at the upcoming flick promises something else pretty interesting: a full-length shot of Zac’s military-grade bod wearing nothing but a pair of teeny BVDs. What can we say? They know what we like!

‘The Notebook’ Captures

Posted by fay with No Comments

Finally, I have got round to adding something to the site.  I have added over 5000 images from The Notebook.  I have also decided that I will get some premiere images to add to the gallery from the premieres of the stars.  There is also a few posts and stills to find and add.

The movie focuses on an old man reading a story to an old woman in a nursing home. The story he reads follows two young lovers named Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun, who meet one evening at a carnival. But they are separated by Allie’s parents who dissaprove of Noah’s unwealthy family, and move Allie away. After waiting for Noah to write her for several years, Allie meets and gets engaged to a handsome young soldier named Lon. Allie, then, with her love for Noah still alive, stops by Noah’s 200-year-old home that he restored for her, “to see if he’s okay”. It is evident that they still have feelings for each other, and Allie has to choose between her fiancé and her first love.

‘One Tree Hill’ star bringing ‘The Notebook’ to Broadway

Posted by Jessica with No Comments

Even though The Notebook has already been out in the movies for years, fans of it still love it. And now they’ll have another version of it to enjoy besides the film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams and the book by Nicholas Sparks.

According to Zap2it, Bethany Joy Galeotti (Haley James Scott on One Tree Hill) and Ron Aniello, her writing partner, have worked on the musical and “staged a reading in Wilmington, North Carolina in 2009.” Nicholas Sparks himself even seems to have endorsed it, so hopefully it ends up being good. There were differences between The Notebook in book and movie, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see other differences when the story hits Broadway. But how will it do as a musical? Will fans of the story love it or find some faults in it? How will the main cast do portraying Noah and Allie and their love? Will the moments that everyone remembers from the movie, including the kiss in the rain, be part of the musical, or will some end up being cut?

This does sound like a perfect opportunity to bring lots of women to the theater to see what the latest version of the story looks like. Will it do well on Broadway, or will theatergoers just wish they had stuck to the movie and book versions? As long as there are still sweet moments, it should be something the target audience enjoys.

What do you think about The Notebook becoming a musical? Source

Nicholas Sparks’ “The Notebook” to be musical

Posted by Jessica with No Comments

Nicholas Sparks has sold more than 90 million books in more than 45 languages.

And then there are the movies that have been made out of his love stories.

One of the most popular of those movies, “The Notebook,” is in the works to take a spin on Broadway.

Sparks said “The Notebook” is planned to take a turn on the Great White Way, but it’s still in development.

When asked about the process of making his characters into on-screen and on-stage presences, Sparks said, “The best way that I’ve always found, and it’s what I’ve done in Hollywood or whether it’s working with the publishers that I’ve worked with for a long time is to work with people that you really trust who understand what it’s about and they want to take that and mold it into something new.”

“Obviously,” he continued, “‘The Notebook’ is going to be some sort of musical and a lot of fun to be involved in that process, too.”

But who will be playing the characters so beloved as Noah and Allie in the show?

“Gosh, I don’t know, someone who can sing!” Sparks said. Source
